Awake is a collection of women’s voices that untangles the convoluted relationship between desire and pleasure, guilt and embarrassment. The book seeks to break a long history of silence. It talks sexuality the way women perceive it, without mediation, and expresses the complex relationship of women to their bodies.

 

Twenty-three monologues written by Tamar Mor Sela appear in Awake, life stories of real women with names and faces who speak with candour. Each monologue consists of a deeply intimate journey into the world of sexuality and its innumerable ripples. These personal stories expose a social structure that distances women from themselves and muffles their sexuality.
