Erot. "Awake, Women talk Sexuality"

2017

Awake is a collection of women’s voices that untangles the convoluted relationship between desire and pleasure, guilt and embarrassment. The book seeks to break a long history of silence. It talks sexuality the way women perceive it, without mediation, and expresses the complex relationship of women to their bodies.

Twenty-three monologues written by Tamar Mor Sela appear in Awake, life stories of real women with names and faces who speak with candour. Each monologue consists of a deeply intimate journey into the world of sexuality and its innumerable ripples. These personal stories expose a social structure that distances women from themselves and muffles their sexuality. At the same time, these stories embody the power to fight against the current, giving voice to women who insist on celebrating their own desire, and on garnering pleasure from the fire that burns within.

Awake became an overnight success upon publication
